MARKET FOCUS
RED LIGHT, GREEN LIGHT:
INTERPRETING THE
GLOBAL ECONOMY
In his talk at VMA’s recent
Market Outlook Workshop,
Farid Abolfathi of IHS Global
Insight explained how 20
global indicators tracked by
his company monitor world
growth. While the signals are
still weak, some positive signs
are beginning to emerge. The
percentage of green indicators
shows favorable response
while the up arrows are
indicators that developments
are moving in the right
direction. Overall in July
2009, there were 8 green
lights and 12 red lights
(unfavorable indicators). There
were also 11 up arrows and 9
down arrows (moving in the
wrong direction). To read more
about Abolfathi’s remarks, go
to page 22.
