KUDOS
DEZURIK’S OLDEST KNOWN
VALVE IN SERVICE RETIRED
While recently upgrading its softening and
filtration systems, a water treatment facility
in St. Cloud, MN made a surprising
discovery: a 53-year-old DeZURIK valve in
exceptional condition. It was the first of six
DeZURIK eccentric plug valves removed
that had been in continual use since 1955.
In their service lives, such valves are
estimated to have processed over 69 billion
gallons of water.
The recently discovered valve was
originally developed by Matt DeZurik in
1928, and the original design has gone
relatively unchanged for more than 80
years. The actuator on the valve has been
updated for safety and ease of maintenance.
The 53-year-old valves were replaced with
DeZURIK’s PEF 100% Port Eccentric Plug
Valve.
SOLON MANUFACTURING
CELEBRATES 60TH
ANNIVERSARY
This year VMA associate member Solon
Manufacturing Co. is celebrating its 60th
anniversary. Based out of Chardon, OH,
Solon was started in 1949 by four engineers
(and fraternity brothers) from Case Western
Reserve University in Cleveland. The first
products marketed were a turbulator,
developed for auto parts cleaning, and a
conduit bender. In 1960, the company
developed Astronaut John Glenn’s relief
valves for the flight suit worn on his first
Earth orbit. The Industrial Controls product
line was added in the early 1960s and
included pressure switches for the Alaskan
Pipeline. The Solon Belleville Spring and
Solon Industrial Controls divisions currently
stocks over 2,000 sizes.
