ANALYZERS CONTROL
COUNTERFEIT ALLOY
MATERIALS
Thermo Scientific Niton handheld
XRF analyzers verify critical alloy
materials, preventing grade mix-ups and are already in use by many
major valve manufacturers and repair shops
as part of positive material identification
(PMI) programs. Now, the Niton XL3t with
GOLDD technology provides immediate, nondestructive chemical analysis of aluminum,
titanium and nickel alloys, as well as superal-loys, stainless steel and other metals—without
helium or vacuum purge.
When combined with the new electronic position
indicator, which is available exclusively with Niton XL3 Series
XRF analyzers, users can electronically store PMI grade data
directly on the valve using a field-hardened “button” smaller
than a dime. The new product operates via a battery-free,
read/write, data storage device, and is designed to perform and
reside in extreme environments, such as those found in petrochemical, utility power and manufacturing plants—both indoors
and out.
By combining accurate alloy-grade identification with elec-
tronic storage of the data, including time and date stamp of the
measurement, inspectors and end users of valves intended for
critical applications can reduce the risk of installing counterfeit
materials.

GRAPHITE PRESSURE
SEAL PROGRAM
EGC Enterprises, which provides
graphite pressure seals for critical
high-pressure valves, announces
VSG. In designing the product,
EGC focused on a rapid-fabrica-tion, zero-tool cost system to produce Thermafoil graphite pressure
seals—working in partnership with valve OEMs, valve repair
firms and power generation facilities.
VSG is a Thermafoil flexible graphite seal with stainless-steel top and toe caps that performs at leak-free levels. The key
difference in VSG compared to the standard EGC pressure seal
is elimination of production molding tools, resulting in greatly
reduced lead-time and tooling costs. During the past year VSG
pressure seals have been installed in fossil, nuclear, gas-fired
and pulp & paper power house pressure seal valves.

Chem-Plug® sleeved valves are available with a diaphragm or V-ring top seal. Chem-Plug® sleeved
valves are offered as ANSI Class 150 or Class 300 in sizes ½” - 12”. Pressure ratings are 275 psi (Class
150) and 720 psi (Class 300) with temperature ratings up to 500°F (260°C) depending on sleeve material.
Chem-Plug® fully lined valves are available with a diaphragm or V-ring top seal configuration for use in
applications up to 400°F (204°C). Lined valves are available with ANSI Class 150 or Class 300 flanged
end connections in sizes ½” - 6”.
Permaseal®
Permaseal® plug valves from SMG have a unique design that includes a non-lubricated, tapered plug and
two individual seats that provide a double seal and bi-directional shutoff. Thrust from spring washers
provide a self-adjusting stem seal and automatic compensation for both seat wear and thermal expansion.
Ranging in sizes ½”- 6”, Permaseal® valves offer corrosion resistance and temperature ratings to 1000°F
(540°C). Permaseal® valves are pressure rated at 285 psi (Class 150) and 740 psi (Class 300).
KEY PORT®
KEY PORT® 400 series eccentric plug valve offers compact size, light weight, and high flow capacity.
KEY PORT® Valves are U.L. Listed and CSA Certified. KEY PORT® valves are available in screwed,
flanged, and dresser end styles. Sizes range ½” - 6”. KEY PORT® comes in ANSI Class 125 for use up to
175 psi (1200 kPa) and 300°F (149°C).
