CURTISS-WRIGHT ACQUIRES MODUMEND,
PURCHASES NETCO
Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Company, the flow control segment of Curtiss-Wright Corporation, has acquired the assets
of Modumend, Inc. for $2 million. Modumend repairs and
refurbishes obsolete power supplies for foreign and domestic
clients in the nuclear, fossil and non-power industries. It will
be integrated into Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Company
Nuclear Group within the Scientech business unit. Founded in
1977, Modumend focuses on obsolete and out-of-production
units, with expertise in linear, switching, uninterruptible high
voltage and integrated circuit power supplies repairs.
Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Company also has acquired
all the stock of Northeast Technology Corporation (NETCO)
and an exclusive worldwide license of the NETCO Snap-In
technology for $3.5 million. NETCO provides engineering
analysis, software development, laboratory testing services
and in-plant testing, and specializes in spent fuel management
for the nuclear power industry. NETCO, which was founded in
1982, will also become part of Curtiss-Wright Flow Control
Company Nuclear Group’s Scientech business unit.
QTRCO ESTABLISHES NUCLEAR
SUBSIDIARY
VMA member QTRCO, Inc. of Tomball, TX, has announced
establishment of a wholly owned subsidiary named QTRCO
NUCLEAR, Inc. to facilitate entry into the nuclear power
plant market. The new subsidiary will seek full NQA- 1 status
as well as applicable equipment qualifications to comply with
nuclear power plant requirements.
CAMERON ACQUIRES MAXTORQUE,
GEOGRAPHE ENERGY
Cameron has acquired the Max Torque line of products and
services. The business will now be offered through Cameron’s
Flow Control division, part of the company’s Drilling & Production Systems group. Max Torque designs, manufactures,
markets and sells high performance quarter-turn and multi-turn gear operators for motorized and manual applications,
subsea operators, Navy specific operators, overrides and engineered solutions. The company has a manufacturing plant in
Limerick, Maine that will continue to develop, sell and service
these products.
Cameron also has acquired Geographe Energy Pty. Limited, valve management specialists for the oil, gas and mining
industries in Australia and the Asia Pacific region. It will
become a part of Cameron’s Valves & Measurement group.
FLOWSERVE OPENS TWO NEW FACILITIES
Flowserve Corp. and the Al-Rushaid Group of Saudi Arabia
have opened a facility designed to support customers in the oil
and gas, petrochemical, power, water, desalination, chemical
and other industries. A key component of the facility is the
region’s largest hydraulics test facility, which is capable of
certified testing to API and international standards, for both
horizontal and vertical pumps.
Flowserve also opened a new manufacturing, repair, refur-bishment services and engineering applications support Quick
Response Center (QRC) for pump and mechanical seal products. Located at the Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai, UAE, the
Flowserve QRC is designed to support Middle East and Arabian Gulf region customers in the oil and gas, petrochemical,
power, water, desalination, chemical and other industries.
VANAIRE OPENS
HOUSTON FACILITY
VanAire Inc., a valve automation
hardware manufacturer, recently
opened a new 18,000-square-foot
complete CNC facility in Houston, TX. This facility is in addition to its existing 45,000-square-foot operation located in
Gladstone, MI. Tony Lambert, vice president of valve automation sales, said the Houston location is strategically located at
the heart of the valve universe, allowing VanAire to work with
valve and actuator manufacturers and key valve automation
distributors located in and around the Houston area.

PBM LEADER HONORED BY SBA
The U.S. Small Business Administration has named Stuart
Zarembo of PBM Valve as Small Business Exporter of the
Year for the Pittsburgh District. Zarembo, a former VMA
board chairman, was named president & CEO of PBM in
December 1991. He holds degrees in mechanical engineering
from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Stanford University
and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
POWELL AND ANVIL INDUCTED
INTO HALL OF FAME
The PVF Roundtable, an organization of companies involved
in the pipe, valve and fitting industry, has inducted new members into its Hall of Fame. They include VMA members Randy
Cowart of Powell Valves and Tom Fish of Anvil International,
a subsidiary of Mueller Water Products. The new inductees
were announced at the last PVF Roundtable General Assembly
Meeting on May 19 in Houston.
