Multi-Function Digital Level
Transmitter/Controller

Designed for use in the refining, petrochemical and energy industries, the 12400 Series from Dresser Masoneilan is the first level instrument that integrates transmitter, controller and switch functions in a single device.

The 12400 Series combines level measurement, global level loop control and low- and high-level switch functions into a single instrument, virtually eliminating the need for additional level switches and controllers. The device offers a combination of features, such as smart filtering, HART communication protocol compatibility and an optional 4-20mA analog output signal, among many others. The series offers process control for a wide range of applications, including severe service.

New Coatings Improve Performance
and Reduce Costs

Flowserve Corporation introduces new valve coating technologies designed to increase cycle life and improve performance. Now standard for the Flowserve McCANNA McCan-naseal top-entry wedge-seated ball valve, the Tungsten carbide and thermal-spray coatings offer cost savings through reduced maintenance and increased resistance to abrasive, high-temperature and severe-service applications.

The coatings are applied using various methods including chemical vapor deposition process and thermal spray. In laboratory testing, Flowserve found that the coating technologies increased cycle life by approximately 150% under severe operating conditions.

Valves for Downhole
Drilling Applications

Continental Disc Corporation has introduced a new product for use in downhole drilling applications. The Well Activation and Safety Protection Valve uses rupture disc technology to release pressure to activate tools already in the hole or to protect downhole drill components from overpressure failure.

Offered in two configurations, Type A and Type I, the valve can replace shear pins and other moving devices in

most applications and saves time and labor on the drill site. The Type A configuration is intended to prevent dangerous pressure spikes from the annulus, and the Type I configuration protects drill pipes, casings and downhole tools from over-pressure within the tubing or drill string. New Plug Cover for Actuators
and Controls

AUMA has developed a new cover for plug and socket connections for its electric actuators and controls. The S-105 cover provides more space for cable gland/conduit assembly.

Increased interior capacity makes cable connection easier and accommodates thicker cabling.

Based on the company’s modular actuator design philosophy, the cover—which is 15 mm higher than the company’s previous model—is fully compatible with its predecessor version, ensuring that early generation products can be incorporated.

These actuators are equipped with a plug/socket connector for motor and control cables as standard. The company reports that the advantage of this type of connection is that, once connected, wiring remains undisturbed, even if the actuator has to be removed from the valve, e.g. for maintenance purposes.
