Applying for membership in the Valve Manufacturers Association does not mean you automatically become a member. VMA has long-standing
criteria that only permits “certified” U.S. and Canadian manufacturers of
valves, actuators and controls to be accepted as members. Before a company is
approved, we make sure it:
; Is based in the United States or Canada
; Designs its own products, and
; Manufactures its own products, or
; Assembles its own products
; Provides quality assurance for its products, and
; Trains and educates its personnel.

Subscriptions are free to qualified

$40 per year to unqualified readers in the
United States and Canada; $60 per year
for all subscribers outside the United
States and Canada. Statements of fact
and opinion made are the responsibility
of the authors alone and do not necessarily imply endorsement or agreement on
the part of the officers or membership
of VMA. Materials may not be reproduced in any form without written permission of VMA.
Meanwhile, a large percentage of our Valve Magazine readership (about 80%)
consists of customers of VMA members: purchasers of valves, actuators and
controls or those who specify or distribute them. These include end-users,
design/engineering firms and distributors. My column this quarter is directed
to you.
When you promote the attributes of your company to your customers, you
stress those qualities that differentiate you from others in the industry. You
should also be viewing your vendors in the valve, actuator and control industry
in the same way: what makes them special? Any “certified” member of VMA
should be at the top of your vendors’ list. Our organization has saved you a step
by evaluating the attributes of these companies in our approval process for
membership.
A complete list of our members appears on pages 57-58 of this magazine.
Additionally, by going to our website ( www.vma.org) and clicking on our
Product Finder, you will find a profile of each member company, including
contact information, product types manufactured and end-user industries
served. Also, in this issue of the magazine we are featuring a Product Matrix
that contains a listing of VMA members and their product types. (This
information comes from the latest edition of the North American Catalog of
Valves, which will be available in late April; go to The VMA Store at
www.vma.org to order a copy.)
Remember, any operation is only as good as its components, so make sure
your vendors are VMA “certified.” VM
