FOCUS: OFFSHORE APPLICATIONS
Stainless-steel Valve Controller
Top Worx announces the launch of its newest discrete valve
controller – the Valvetop DXS. This rugged new product features an impressive 316L stainless-steel enclosure and is
designed for durability in extreme hazardous environments
where traditional aluminum is not adequate. The Valvetop
DXS is designed to
withstand salt
spray, humidity,
corrosives and
caustic washdown,
and is made for offshore, chemical and
petrochemical
applications.
It offers a wide
variety of bus networks (i.e. Foundation Fieldbus, DeviceNet,
AS-Interface), sensor options (GO Switch, proximity, mechanical, P+F, 4-20mA transmitter with auto calibration feature)
and integral pilot valves. The Valvetop DXS is globally certified for Explosion Proof and Intrinsically Safe (Class I, Div. 1
& 2, Zone 0 & 1) applications.

Safety Valve Controllers
Emerson Process Management has announced enhancements
to its SIL 3 certified Fisher Fieldvue DVC6000 digital valve
controller for safety instrumented systems (SIS). The
enhancements help improve reliability, flexibility and availability of emergency shutdown (ESD) valve solutions.
The ESD final control system components are integrated
with safety-certified sensors and SIL3 rated systems in Emerson’s digital smart SIS solutions. The instrument is also available in stainless-steel constructions for harsh offshore environments and severe service constructions.

Innovative Subsea Processing
Technologies
Two of Cameron’s CAMFORCE Subsea Processing technologies—MARS (Multiple Application Reinjection System) and
POSSibilities (Production Optimization Simulation Software)—have been successfully used as part of the BP King multiphase pumping project in the Gulf of Mexico.
MARS serves as the interface between the subsea production tree and the processing equipment modules (pumping,
metering, separation or well stimulation) and has been
described as a USB port for subsea production trees. The
technology has been developed and supplied by DES, a wholly
owned subsidiary of Cameron. The patented MARS system
NEW PRODUCTS
enables processing equipment modules to be installed on any
subsea tree at any time and provides a universal interface.
POSSibilities software is used to compare numerous production optimization solutions and configurations throughout
the life of the field to determine an optimum solution. The BP
King project is the first multiphase pump installation in the
Gulf of Mexico and the first field application of both the
MARS and POSSibilities technologies.
In addition to multiphase pumping, MARS has been selected by Shell for subsea well stimulation operations in the North
Sea and by Total for subsea multiphase metering in West
Africa.
The MARS technology has also been the recipient of several industry awards including the American Society of
Mechanical Engineers “Distinguished Innovation Award” and
World Oil’s “New Horizons Idea Award.”

Offshore Flow Meter
Engineers in a tight spot over where to locate liquid and gas
flow meters aboard offshore platforms, FPSO vessels and subsea installations will find the self-conditioning V-Cone Offshore Flow Meter from
McCrometer requires a
pipe straight-run that
is up to 70% less than
other meters, resulting
in significant real
estate and installation
cost savings that can
actually exceed the
cost of the instrument
itself.
The advanced V-Cone operates over a
wide flow range of
10: 1 with low headloss
and supports line sizes from 0.5 to greater than 120 inches.
Accuracy is +0.5%, with a repeatability of +0.1%. Petroleum production engineers can rely on the V-Cone Flow Meter
for long life and low cost of ownership because it requires virtually no recalibration or maintenance. Easy to locate and
easy to install, this versatile flow meter is ideal for new equipment designs, expansion projects or retrofits requiring new
meters. It is compatible with the demanding standards set by
the oil/gas production, delivery and refining industry. And, the
testing of the V-Cone Flow Meter now conforms to the American Petroleum Institute’s API 22. 2 Testing Protocol for differential pressure flow measurement devices.
