Irecently returned from a trip to Mumbai, India— 35 hours of travel
for one hour in the spotlight. I was there
to make a presentation to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)—Valves
Conference 2011. The conference had
more than 200 attendees from valve and
actuator manufacturers as well Indian
end users of both products. And though
the trip was long, it was rewarding:
another step in reinforcing the global
nature of our industry. VMA continues
to develop outstanding relationships
with valve associations throughout the
world because we recognize all of us in
this industry have the same goals and
concerns. For example, I listened to one
interesting presentation from a major
end user in the power industry in India,
who related seven challenges to valve
and actuator manufacturers in his part
of the world. They were the same challenges U.S. and Canadian end users
have presented at recent VMA meetings:
; Product metallurgy to meet
emerging technologies
; Compact and lighter design
; Timely delivery
; High reliability
; Operational ease
; Excellent product support, and
; Cost effectiveness
VMA has several planned events to
nurture our relationships globally during
2012. Already on the calendar are:
; May 3-5, CEIR (European Valve
Conference), Paris, France
; June 18-22, ACHEMA,
Frankfurt, Germany
; Nov. 27-29, Valve World,
Dusseldorf, Germany
In addition we will again host many
of our international colleagues at our
74th Annual Meeting scheduled for
Sept. 20 to 22 in Half Moon Bay, CA.
(At this year’s annual meeting in Orlan-
do, FL, we had representatives from Ger-
many, Great Britain, Italy and Turkey.)
